ABSTRACT
This work evaluates the possibility of meeting a single family household’s need for hot water and heat year round, using solar collectors as the sole energy source. The main flaw of energetic systems based on solar energy is that the energy supply is usually insufficient in winter, when it is most needed. This work is going to show that, for a house surface of 150 m2 and base dimension of 10×10 m, it is possible to supply sufficient heat for everyday purposes with solar energy only, using a thermally insulated thermal storage unit of 200 m3 volume, filled with water or paraffin wax.
